- Red Wave is the official team of the University of Bologna and winner of the 2025 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge – SeaLab Class. Founded in 2024 within the Department of Industrial Engineering, the project represents the University’s strong commitment to applied research and “learning by doing.”
Students work alongside professors and industrial partners to design, build, and test a fully electric high-performance boat, transforming classroom theory into real engineering solutions. From propulsion and hydrodynamics to electronics, composites, and system integration, every component is developed through direct hands-on experience.
Red Wave is the University of Bologna’s official team and winner of the 2025 Monaco Energy Boat Challenge – SeaLab Class. Founded in 2024 within the Department of Industrial Engineering, the project reflects the University’s strong “learning by doing” philosophy.
Students design, build, and test a high-performance electric boat, directly applying their academic knowledge to real engineering challenges. The team plays a key role in the competitive validation of the COMPETR electric propulsion system, a technology born from applied research at the University and developed into an industrial spin-off.
Academically supervised by Professor Giangiacomo Minak, and supported by MOST and European Union funds, Red Wave represents a bridge between research, industry, and sustainable mobility innovation.
